SCRAPS, SCRAPS, SCRAPS

My granddaughter asked if she could make a quilt for her boyfriend for Christmas.  However, as a college student carrying 18 units with a straight A average she doesn't have much time.  So I have volunteered to do the work.  She did select the colors and drew up the design she wanted.
I had the three grandsons this past week, while Mom and Dad were on a business trip.  Noah my 9 year old grandson helped me iron and cut all the strips for the quilt over two evenings while they were here.  One wonderful advantage to this project is we are using up a lot of my old Thimbleberry fabrics.  I never had the heart to donate them to anyone or cause, so this is a real plus getting these out of my stash.

Over the last couple days this past weekend I have been able to finish almost half of the 88 blocks we are going to need.  The finished quilt will be 80 by 107.  She wanted it big as the young man is over six foot.  The only hope is I have enough scraps.

A LITTLE START FOR CHRISTMAS

My besty Brooke of Silly Mama Quilts posted the runner below a few weeks ago.  It was so pretty and I had the perfect fabrics stashed away for one.  I quilted mine with Metallic  Madera thread.  It is the best metallic thread I have ever used.  Pop in a metallic needle, regular gold sewing thread in the bobbin, and it quilts without breakage.  I have used it numerous times with complete success.  I am tempted to make another, they are so easy especially since the star points are not matching.  My two young grandsons are still in elementary school, so this runner and making another one would be perfect gifts for their teachers.

I believe Brooke has this runner pictured here available in her Etsy shop, along with all sorts of other wonderful items.
This is my finish for the week so I am linking up with

LINEN NOT QUITE GRANNY

I saw this runner on Amanda Jean Nyberg's Blog Crazy Mom Quilts a couple weeks ago.  The pattern is available on Craftsy, in several different sizes.  I have some linen prints I purchased about a year ago at the Pacific International Quilt Show.  The prints are Avant-Garden and the dots are Linen Mochi Dots by MoMo for Moda.  The plain flax linen is Essex.
When complete I expect it will be about 70 inches long by 14 or 16 inches wide.  I have not quite decided on the width.  I am considering a flax border and then another border in another print, just not sure yet where this will go.

1996 UFO FINISH

Do you remember this? While sorting through my studio I came across this unfinished quilt way back to 1996.  I pulled it out and decided it had to be finished.
Well here it is finished, well almost.  I still have two side to finish the handwork on the binding.  Considering it has had a 19 year journey that is too close to finished to worry about a hour or so of handwork.  I put a hanging sleeve on it.  I think it will go up on the wall in my dining area sometimes, and it is definitely going to my guild's quilt show in January 2017.
This has to be the longest finishing project there is so I am linking up with

100 MODERN QUILT BLOCKS

Well not exactly 100!  I started on this adventure a couple years ago.  I obtained Tula Pink's City Sampler of 100 Modern Quilt Blocks at the Portland Spring Market.  I was still trying to use up Bonnie & Camille fabrics at the time.  I ended up with about 45 blocks and then lost steam on the project.
I pulled them out about a week ago and decided I would put them together with what I had.  I was able to add in about 4 of my left over blocks from my Niner project.  It is a little less than half sewn together now.  It would make a sweet baby girl quilt.
It is still a work in progress, but I hope soon finished up and ready to go to the quilter.  So I am linking up with

LUX IN BLOOM

Back in June I posted this project.  The pattern Charm Pack Plus One was in the Summer 2015 edition of Stitch magazine.  The original pattern was supposed to be a baby quilt.  I had yardage so decided to expand it to 60 by 60 inches.  The fabric is Lux in Bloom by Sarah Watson for Art Gallery.  I REALLY liked it, because I bought it twice at two different quilt market Sample Sprees.  An accident, but in the end I am glad I did.  The quilt is really pretty, don't you think?

My quilter Hollie Rawe did a wonderful job, even the back is pretty.

This is a finished project, so I am linking up with

PATCH WORK BENCH

Over the last couple of months I have given away five quilts to staff that were leaving me at work, and then another just this pass week as a donation to the Football Auction Fundraiser.  I am fresh out of quilts either for gifts or future Fundraiser Events at work.
When I saw this quilt in Handmade Style by Anna Graham I decided it was the perfect FAST quilt to make.  Kona Snow and one of their many grays.  I label my Kona whites, Snow is my favorite, but it is hard to keep track of the other whites without labeling them.  I have a number of grays as well, guess I had better start labeling them as well.  The prints were just random selections out of my stash.  Once quilted I think this will be a really pretty quilt.
